How the scroll test works

Point your mouse at the test area and spin the scroll wheel. The first notch starts the timer, and every notch after that adds one to your score until time runs out. Scrolling up and down both count. The page won't move while you scroll inside the box.

Trackpads and free-spinning wheels send many tiny scroll events, so we add them up into notch-sized steps. That keeps scores comparable across devices.

Why scroll speed matters

Some games let you bind jump, weapon switching or "bunny hop" to the scroll wheel. A fast, reliable scroll then gives you an edge. The test also checks your hardware. If the score jumps around or skips when you scroll slowly, the wheel encoder may be dirty or worn.

Getting a higher score

  • Flick the wheel with the side of your fingertip instead of rolling it notch by notch.
  • Many gaming mice have a button that switches the wheel to free-spin mode, which gives very high scores.
  • Use short bursts. Scroll scores fall quickly as your finger tires.
