What is a CPS test?
A CPS (clicks per second) test measures how fast you can press your mouse button. Click inside the test area as many times as you can before the countdown bar runs out. When time is up, we divide your total clicks by the number of seconds to give you a CPS score, plus a rank from Snail up to Lightning.
The default test lasts 5 seconds, which is long enough to be fair but short enough to go all out. Use the time buttons above the test to switch to anything from a 1-second sprint to a 100-second endurance run.
A free clicking speed checker
Use it as a quick clicking speed checker before a gaming session, to compare mice, or to track your progress over weeks. Every result shows your clicks per second, an estimate of how you compare with other players, and how many more clicks would reach the next rank. Your best score for each test length is saved in your browser.
How to take the test
- Pick a duration from the menu (5 seconds is selected by default).
- Click once inside the box. That first click starts the timer and counts.
- Keep clicking as fast as you can until the countdown reaches zero.
- Read your CPS, total clicks and rank on the result card, then press Try again to beat your best.
What is a good CPS score?
Most people land between 5 and 8 clicks per second with normal clicking. Here is how our ranks map to speed:
| CPS | Rank | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 0 – 2 | 🐌 Snail | Just warming up |
| 2 – 4 | 🐢 Tortoise | Casual clicking |
| 4 – 6 | 🐱 House Cat | Around average |
| 6 – 8 | 🐇 Rabbit | Faster than most |
| 8 – 11 | 🐆 Cheetah | Very fast regular clicking |
| 11 – 14 | 🦅 Falcon | Usually needs jitter clicking |
| 14+ | ⚡ Lightning | Butterfly or drag-clicking territory |
Tips to click faster
- Relax your grip. A tense hand gets tired and slows down fast. Click from the fingertip, not the whole arm.
- Try a technique. Jitter clicking tenses the forearm to make the finger vibrate. Butterfly clicking alternates two fingers on one button.
- Use a light mouse switch. Gaming mice with low actuation force and a short travel register clicks faster.
- Practise short sessions. Several 5- or 10-second runs build speed better than one long session, and they're kinder to your wrist.
Why gamers care about CPS
In PvP games, especially Minecraft combat, block placing and bridging, a higher click rate can mean more hits or faster building. Outside gaming, the test is a quick way to check that a new mouse registers every click, or just to compete with friends.
Frequently asked questions
Does the first click count?
Yes. The first click starts the timer and is included in your score.
Is my score saved?
Your best score for each duration and your recent results are saved in this browser only. Nothing is sent to a server. Open the history icon in the top bar to see them.
Can I take the test on a phone?
Yes. Each tap on the box counts as a click, so you can measure your taps per second on any touchscreen.
